For the next three weeks, we will build up to the Fall Equinox, the time of year when there is equal day and night. To do so, we will give "equal time" to daytime and night time on our podcasts, and reserve a special third instalment to the music of the Equinox and of the Fall.
The day begins with sunrise, heard here under the pen of "Papa" Haydn:
Four more selections are inspired by sunrise from Edvard Grieg, Richard Rodgers, Ferde Grofe and French-Candian composer Alexis Contant.
After a stirring rendition of a Richard Strauss lieder by Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, we move to two pieces tha ttransition from dawn to mid-day: excerpts from La Mer by Claude Debussy and the Fountains of Rome by Ottorino Respighi.

FAST-FORWARD: A complete performance of La Mer is featured in our August 2012 montage The Sea and the Beach.
Franz Joseph Haydn wrote a symphonic triptych "Le matin", "Le midi" and "Le soir", of which we will sample the second, in a performance from my current local orchestra, the National Arts Centre Orchestra of Ottawa.
Finally, two 1970's evocations of the Sun: Sunforest's Overture to the Sun (which was part of Kubrick's soundtrack to A Clockwork Orange) and Andre Gagnon's Sunsonata.
I think you will love this music too.

Commentaire francaisPour trois vendredis, nous allons présenter des oeuvres qui nous amèneront à l'équinoxe d'automne, le temps de l'année où jour et nuit sont d'égale durée. Nous allons donner du temps d'antenne égal au jour et à la nuit, tout en réservant un montage pour l'équinoxe et la musique de l'automne.
Pour commencer, un hommage au lever du jour, gracieuseté d'Edvard Grieg, Richard Rodgers, Ferde Grofe et du compositeur québécois Alexis Contant.
Bien sûr, on doit souligner le fameux quatuor "Le lever du Soleil" de Haydn, intégré ci-haut dans le commentaire anglais.
Pour entamer la matinée, un lieder de Richard Strauss interprété par Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, et deux pièces qui nous amènent au midi: des extraits de La Mer de Claude Debussy et des Fontaines de Rome d'Ottorino Respighi.
